and it gets better

no matter what you do, it always get better. even when it does not seem so because you're blinded by some crazy plan you believe you have to get in motion. your small plans mean nothing in the bigger scheme of life. but you may get there, with a little help from your big brother spirit.

wise is the one who knows better

You can wonder why such a small country endures so much and at the same time was able to show a different world during the XV century, sailing across the seventh seas. You can wonder why we put up with so much evil and exploitation. But we know why. We learned to enjoy the beauty and the peace. And to wait patiently until fates shows us right. Happy is the path of the one who knows better...

moving people

Oporto (Portugal) artists gather every year to show their work These guys move us with their art. Freedom of thought, letting go of what moves them too. Great artists that have to fight hard to keep working and making a living and not letting go their dreams.

shattered dreams

light gardens

nine words to describe love

"nine words to describe love", digital work by MMF - all rights reserved It sure feels like love that first moment you loose yourself near a significant other; that instant you can't even remember properly and yet it is carved deep inside you. You do not remember what happens, you just know you surrender to something greater than anything else. And you live your life looking for it again and again. That moment is love, not lust, not passion, but pure love. You are and you know it.

see you in a while Karl

When I got to Seattle, summer of 2001, Karl had took my fourteen year old daughter into his Tae Kwon Do class, in Tukwila Community Center. She had grown up, as all kids do over summer, and I was taken by surprise seeing her fight men an women twice her age and size. There were some amazing and very young kids doing stuff I only saw in the movies. But I was so proud of mine... Karl and his family looked after her like their own and will be forever grateful to his kind attention to her. Never had the chance to learn more from him and I just heard he entered the Spirit World four years ago. I felt very sad. We always hope to enjoy people we like for a little longer, though we foolish throw away our chances and never give them a second thought. Even if  I wont be seeing Karl again in this world, I am sure he still keeps an eye on us back here. And we will all join him in a while.

lacking sense

One thing remains unclear: what is the point of condemning killing and then chase and hunt down killers/dictators as if it does not count because you are against killing... Another very peculiar thing: how can media condemn killing and then show dozens of videos of dictators being beaten to death? Is that a surprise that the message does not get through?

looking up and down

where has all the quietness gone?

Photo by MMFerreira This is how peaceful a beach can be early in the morning. A couple of hours later is hell with too many people and all the stuff and noise brought with them. I am surprised that people are still able to think...

loads of people

Photo MMFerreira World population duplicated since the 60's. It's a shocking piece of knowledge and I'm still trying to figure it out...

Torel

photo by MMFerreira Early morning in one of my favourite spots in Lisbon, Jardim do Torel (Torel Garden). The view is great, specially because you can look around a couple of Lisbon's hills. And there is no street noise, no people talking out loud and most of the time you get to be the only one around.

mornings

Photo by MMFerreira Mornings are great. Silence and the wonderful expectations that a new day brings are mandatory.

drawing my life

Late afternoon drawing in a Sunday One should be able to know better than let emotions pick the way things go. Drawing is not that hard for you can visualize the page and decide the way you wanna fill it. You should be able to do the same with your life. I think it would be very easy to do a drawing on other people's life. From the outside you can watch and decide where the pen must go.

trying not to write love songs

flirting with life

We are like cats, spending most of our lifes up there, somewhere, flirting with live instead of getting our hands on the job. But it feels good too. What should I do now: stay put or jump into the unknown?

street art

You have seen it before. They are everywhere, in cities all around the world. This one is in one of the poorest areas of Porto. It's quite amazing to go around in streets where most of the buildings are falling apart and find masterpieces like this.

cloudy skies, stormy days

Cloudy skies and windy, stormy days have always been my favourites. They kinda make me feel free and that is not easy to explain. They can soothe my mind. Does that make sense, to feel the wind in your face and feel so happy that you can not explain it? Go figure...

beautiful things

Fake representation of familiar stuff - this is a great work done by my friend Lucia David, a great artist. She usually gets her materials from old garage stuff and composes her pieces with that. It is amazing to see how anything can get back to life and mean something by the hands of a creative person. No crisis for artists - they know they are always fighting for their lives...

you should know better

Something got to be wrong when you walk to your gym and find out it's closed because the whole country is on strike. No fitness nuts today... It's more like an holiday, with kids out of school and workers staying at home. No public transportation either. Is it gonna matter? Don't think so. Specially when you know you have to vote for the same guys over and over again.
